Multicultural Education
Program Competency:
Apply the dimensions of multicultural education to support appropriate pedagogical practices for teaching diverse students.
Artifacts Completed for Competency:
Multicultural Lesson Plan; Individual Culture Project
What I Learned:
When I finished the Multicultural class, I was surprised by how much I learned during this class. Culture is not really something taught in school however, it should be. Many times, when culture is brought up, people don't know what theirs is. Cultures, ethicists, and race are what makeup who we are. I plan on teaching my students that their culture. ethnic, and race is nothing to be ashamed of. I want my students to know that the best way to learn is from each other and others' experiences.
How this helps my future:
Now that I have learned about how everyone is different and how the world sees people differently, I now see things in a new way. I think in today's world more than ever it is important for teachers to show students what being inclusive is and how being kind can change someone's whole day. What I have learned has taught me that when I have a classroom of my own I don't want any student to feel left out to different because of their culture, race, or ethnicity. I want every student to feel welcomed and loved in my classroom.
